| Adoption
Policies
WnW
does not allow same day adoptions. Potential
adopters and family members are required to visit
the animal in the foster home setting. If the potential
adopter is out-of-state or a visit to the foster home
is not possible for any other reason, a homesite visit
by an approved affiliate of Whiskers -n- Wags Rescue
Team, Inc. is required before final adoption. |
|
Whiskers
n' Wags will work with you to find the right companion
animal for you and your lifestyle. Our animals deserve
lifetime, loving families and you deserve a happy,
loving and well-adjusted pet. Our rescuers and foster
families make every effort to assimilate these animals
into a loving home environment. They are socialized
with children, adults, and other pets over time, so
they are comfortable and ready to become your special
pet.
All
Whiskers n' Wags animals have been assessed by a veterinarian
and are current on all required vaccinations and in
the best possible health. We will provide full disclosure
on any and all health related issues/special needs
to the prospective adopter. All pets will be spay/neutered,
with the exception of young kittens, before final
adoption takes place.
|
All adoptions will be conducted
on a case by case basis.
Adopters
must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied
by a parent or guardian.
Whiskers-n-Wags
makes every effort to ensure the good health of
our babies before adoption, however, colds and
ailments are often common in animals who begin
life outside. Kittens are not tested for Feluk/FIV
until they reach 4 months. Before this time, the
presence of Mom's antibodies in their systems
generates a result based on Mom's status. They
must shed these antibodies before an accurate
result is possible.
Typically,
we do not encourage adoptions where our babies
will be "Only Children" unless potential
homes have a stay at home human. An only cat is
a lonely cat.
All
members of the household must be in agreement to the
adoption. No animal will be adopted as a 'gift' to
another individual.
Cats/Kittens
are to be indoor companions only, unless otherwise
stated in the adoption contract. We do occassionally
allow adult cats to be adopted as 'mousers' if the
cat is to be relocated from a feral colony environment
and/or is otherwise un-suitable for intergration into
a family environment. A reliable food source must
be provided at all times. Specification for adoptions
of 'mousers' will be stated in the adoption contract.
De-clawing
of cats/kittens is strictly prohibited. We consider
it a mutilation. For more information on de-clawing,
please visit our education page.
Dogs/Puppies
are to be adopted as companion animals and should
be treated as members of the family.
In
a suburban environment, an adequately fenced yard
is required for adoption of dogs/puppies. Exceptions
can be made, in the best interest of the animal(s),
on a case by case basis and such will be stated in
the adoption contract.
No
animal's appearance shall be altered through professional
or home administered cosmetic surgery. This includes
but is not limited to: tail docking, ear cropping,
dew claw removal, branding-hot/cold, tooth extraction.
Appearance alteration for medical or life threatening/hindering
situations is allowed, proof of need from a liscensed,
qualified veternarian, should be submitted to Whiskers
n' Wags before surgery takes place.
All
animals that are old enough have been spay/neutered
by Whiskers -n- Wags Rescue Team, Inc. unless health
issues present substantial risks. Animals that are
too young at the time of adoption must be spay/neutered
on or before the date specified in the adoption contract.
If
for any reason you are forced to relinquish your pet,
the animal is to be returned to Whiskers n' Wags.
We will make every effort to find your pet a new,
loving home.
If you
should have any further questions, please contact us.
