"I
won't get attached, I won't get attached, I won't get attached!"
I repeated this mantra many times as I drove my new charges
home that first day. Andora had bottle fed them and nursed
them through a scare, and now they were ready to come and
bunk in with us.
I'm a cat person- anyone will tell you that.
I adore our dog, who loves me just fine in return as long
as Chris is not around! We're suckers for a feline sob story-
all of our 8 cats are rescues or strays who adopted us. The
gravitation toward a personable rescue group was inevitable.
Fostering, too, seemed logical when it became clear that our
cats would eventually accept new cats in their midst, the
occasional growl and hiss not withstanding!
And so it was that these babies, four adorable
little girls with lean bodies, apple heads, and doe eyes came
to stay with me. I knew perfectly well that they were destined
to be adopted, and I tried to prepare myself for their departures.
Cali, for example, was adopted before I even brought her home.
I knew better then to bond with her! Oh, well- I tried! Their
play is something to behold- a combination of clumsiness and
grace- the Matrix meets the 3 Stooges! These lithe little
girls remind us often of female wrestlers! They play with
exuberance and joy! And these babies make a habit of climbing
in my lap to go to sleep. They purr the moment I reach for
them and even rise up of two feet to reach back! They rub
their faces on my face and nibble the end of my nose before
tucking up under my chin. I challenge anyone not to get attached!!
Cali and Lil' Sis,(left in photo above) beautiful
little dilute Calicos, have been adopted. Spiter (right in
photo above) and Bobbi (photo on right) are still with me
and I dread the day when they too might leave! So if when
we deliver a bundle of fur to your house I can't contain my
tears, don't take it personally. All of our babies this summer
have gone to AMAZING homes, and I'm just a first time foster
Mom still learning how to gracefully let go!
