Put
most people in a house full of assorted cats and kittens,
and the majority are going to gravitate to the babies. They're
adorable, bouncy little fluff balls who possess an amazing
ability to steal hearts within seconds! Naturally people are
attracted to them. But kittens are not right for everyone.
They have two speeds- wide opened and asleep! And they typically
demand a lot of attention. For this reason, we will not place
a single kitten unless there are other animals in the home,
or one or more humans is home all day. An only cat is a lonely
cat, and a kitten is far more likely to get in to trouble
with no one to play with! If you must have a kitten, consider
two!
There are exceptions to the "Only Cat"
rule. Sometimes a cat will make it very clear that they have
no interest in the company of other animals. Our Himy, Greta,
is a stunning two year old girl who joyfully smacks any unlucky
cat, or dog, who happens in to her orbit. She would make a
perfect "only pet." A good foster will be able to
tell you the disposition of any animal in their care.
When introducing a cat or dog into a home
with existing animals, read up on the breed. Some are far
more likely to accept additions then others. If you decide
on a breed that typically does not like cats, it's best to
go with a puppy and raise them together from day one. Take
a little time to decide the best fit for your situation. You
and your furbabies will be glad you did!
